The Walnut Creek Historical Society supports the efforts of community members to expand their understanding of local history.

The Historical Society offers tours of downtown heritage sites and the Shadelands Ranch Museum. Books about local history are available for sale. This website has extensive information about our history, including videotaped stories about unique Walnut Creek events and people.

Research the Archives

The Historical Society maintains a rich archive of Contra Costa and Walnut Creek history in its collections of old newspapers, photographs, and government records at the Shadelands Ranch Museum. The Sherwood Burgess Room is open Wednesday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. for individuals who wish to do research on local history. The historical archives at the downtown Walnut Creek Library are also available to the public on request.

Historic Exhibits at the Downtown Library

The exhibit is located in the Fireside Room at the far north end of the second floor of the library. Check out the current exhibit.
